What’s In A Name?

The restaurant's name is a combination of the Thai word, “Baan,” meaning house and “Wasana,” the owner's first name. So, “Baan Wasana” literally means, “Wasana’s House.” The name of the restaurant is important to Wasana for three reasons. One, it represents the homestyle meals she serves up. Two, she wants everyone to know who is in charge. Three, when you step inside, you are not just a customer, you are a guest in her home.

The Perfect Balance

The secret to Thai cuisine is balancing strong flavours. The four key flavours of Thai food, and what creates them are:

  • Waan / Sweet - Palm Sugar

  • Brieow / Sour - Lime Juice, Kaffir Lime Leaf, Tamarind, Lemongrass, White Vinegar

  • Kem / Salty - Salt, Fish Sauce, Soy Sauce, Shrimp Paste

  • Ped / Spicy - Thai Chili, Jalapeño, Garlic, White Pepper
